Which accessories fit a 21 inch kamado?

For a 21 inch kamado (Large, grate Ø 47 cm) the range is the widest: cast iron half-moon grates and griddles for the Smart Qooking System, a grill extender, a charcoal basket, a rotisserie basket and a rain cover. Accessories with 21 / 23 inch in the name fit both the Large and the XL.

Two zones at once: cast iron half-moon grate and griddle
Extra cooking level: 21 / 23 inch grill extender
Crispy all round: stainless steel rotisserie basket
Maintenance: 21 / 23 inch charcoal basket and rain cover

Large kamado

The widest choice for the most popular size.

The Large is the most chosen kamado size, and most 21 inch kamado accessories are made for it. With half-moon grates you split the grate into a direct and an indirect zone, so you can sear a steak while the vegetables cook gently.

Half moon: two zones

A cast iron half-moon grate and a griddle together make a full grate. That gives you a hot grilling zone on one side and a plate for fish, eggs or vegetables on the other. See all versions under cast iron grates.

Large or XL?

Not sure about your size? A Large has a 47 cm grate, an XL a 52 cm grate. Read more on the Large kamado page or browse the XL accessories.

Fuel and temperature

The bigger the kamado, the more it matters that your charcoal burns evenly. Choose kamado charcoal in large lumps and check the core temperature with a BBQ thermometer.

Frequently asked questions about accessories for the 21 inch kamado

Do 21 / 23 inch accessories fit my Large?

Yes. Accessories with 21 / 23 inch in the name, such as the grill extender, the charcoal basket and the rain cover, fit both the Large (21 inch) and the XL (23.5 inch). Grates and griddles are sold per size.

What does a grill extender do?

A grill extender places a second grate higher up in the kamado. That increases your cooking area, or lets you keep something away from the fire while the rest grills.

What do I use a rotisserie basket for?

A stainless steel rotisserie basket turns on the spit of a rotisserie above the fire. Small pieces such as chicken wings, vegetables or potato wedges cook evenly and turn crispy all round.

Do the half-moon grates fit the Smart Qooking System?

Yes. The half-moon grates and plates are made for the Smart Qooking System, so you can place them side by side or above each other at different heights.
