Which kamado accessories do you really need?
For a kamado BBQ you mainly need accessories that match the size of your grill: a heat deflector for indirect cooking, an extra grate or griddle, and an ash tool or ash drawer to keep the kamado clean. Choose your size first (13, 16, 21 or 23.5 inch) and then what you want to cook: grilling, smoking, baking pizza or low and slow.

Not every kamado accessory fits every grill. Grates, deflectors and pizza stones are made for a fixed grate diameter, so start with the size of your kamado. Then choose by what you want to cook.
Choose by size
Got a 21 inch kamado? Head to the Large kamado accessories. For the 23.5 inch there are the XL accessories. The smaller sizes are under 16 inch (Medium) and 13 inch (Small).
Choose by technique
For smoking and slow cooking, place a heat deflector between the fire and the meat and add smoking wood. A steady temperature starts with good kamado charcoal, and a BBQ thermometer tells you exactly when your meat is done.
Replacing a part?

How do I know which accessory fits my kamado?
Check the size of your kamado: 13, 16, 21 or 23.5 inch. Grates, deflectors and griddles are made per grate diameter. Not sure of the size? Measure the cooking grate from edge to edge and choose the accessory for that size.
What is the difference between a heat deflector and the Smart Qooking System?
A heat deflector is a ceramic plate that shields the direct fire, so you cook indirectly. The Smart Qooking System is a multi-level rack in which you combine deflector, grates and griddle. That way you grill direct and cook indirect in the same session.
How do I keep my kamado clean?
After cooking, let the kamado burn at a high temperature for a while so grease residue turns to carbon. Then use the ash tool to push the ash through the fire grate and catch it in the ash drawer. A rain cover protects the outside when the kamado stays outdoors.
How do I look after cast iron grates and griddles?
Brush cast iron clean while it is still warm, let it dry well and then rub it lightly with oil. That builds up a protective layer and stops it from rusting.
