What can you do with kamado gloves?

Shift hot grates, lift cast iron pans, move a pizza stone and open your kamado's lid without burning yourself. These Grill Fanatics gloves extend past the wrist, so your forearm is protected too when reaching into the barbecue. They're sold as a pair.

    • Protection past the wrist, not just the hand
    • Sold as a pair
    • Brand: Grill Fanatics

These kamado gloves from Grill Fanatics are made for the moments where you'd otherwise hold your breath: shifting a grate that's been over the coals for an hour, moving a cast iron pan, or lifting the lid when it's still well over two hundred degrees inside. They extend past your wrist, so your forearm stays protected when you need to reach deep into the kamado. They're sold as a pair.

    Why separate kamado gloves

On a ceramic barbecue it's not just the fire that gets hot. The ceramic, the metal bands and the grates store heat and release it for hours. That's exactly why a short oven mitt leaves your wrist brushing against the hot rim of the kamado, and that's where it goes wrong. A long cuff solves that.

    • Extra length that brings your wrist and forearm along
    • Enough grip to move a full grate in one go
    • Handy when swapping the heat deflector halfway through a session
    • Also useful around the fire bowl, the dutch oven and a wood fire
    • Sold as a pair, so you lift heavy cast iron with both hands

    How to use them

Put them on before you open the lid, not once you're already holding something hot. Lift cast iron with both hands and set it down on a heat-resistant surface right away. Grip and move in one fluid motion: the longer the contact lasts, the more heat comes through.

    Care

Wipe off grease and marinade straight away so nothing can burn in. Let them dry outside and only store them once they're truly dry.

More tools to keep your hands out of the heat are in the BBQ tools. Mainly use them for pans? Check out the BBQ cast iron category. Want to compare a longer version? Take a look at the Valhal Outdoor BBQ gloves.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I open the lid of my kamado with these?
Yes. Opening the lid is exactly when your wrist brushes the hot rim, and that part is covered by the long cuff.
Are they suitable for a cast iron pan?
Yes, as long as you lift with both hands and set the pan down right away. Cast iron holds its heat for a long time, so don't walk around with it.
What's the difference with an oven mitt?
An oven mitt is shorter, thinner and made for an oven you open from the front. On a kamado you reach down and inward, and that's when you want protection past the wrist.
    How do I clean them?
Wipe off grease and marinade straight away and then let them dry outside. Only store them once they're completely dry.
