Why is Grill Bill cheaper? Is the quality lower?

The difference lies in the sales route, not in the ceramic. Big Green Egg sells exclusively through a tightly controlled dealer network, and every link in that chain adds margin. We manufacture ourselves and deliver directly to the customer, so that margin isn't in the price. Above a thousand euros, ceramic barely differs between serious brands; the difference lies in finish, accessories and what's included as standard.

Who gives the best warranty on the ceramic?

Big Green Egg gives limited lifetime warranty on the main ceramic parts (base, lid with chimney, fire grate, inner ring). We give 10 years, and 20 years once you complete our free online course, on the entire body. On other parts Big Green Egg gives 3 years on the ConvEGGtor and pizza stone, but only 1 year on wood and plastic such as handles and side tables — we give 3 years across the board. Both brands require registration and neither warranty is transferable.

Why do I need to take a course for 20 years of warranty?

Because most damage to a kamado happens in the first few months, from things nobody tells you. Firing up too fast, extinguishing it the wrong way, opening the lid at the wrong moment. Our free online course teaches you exactly that, and since we started offering it we've seen less damage. The course costs no money, just some time. Complete it and we double the term on the Pro II and Pro III.

Is it true the warranty is void if I don't buy from an authorised dealer?

With Big Green Egg, yes: buy it from a non-authorised seller and the warranty doesn't apply, even if you do nothing wrong yourself. That's a deliberate choice by the brand to protect its dealer network. For us this doesn't come up — we're the only seller ourselves, so there's no authorised or non-authorised route.

Can I transfer the warranty if I sell my kamado?

No. That applies to us, but also to Big Green Egg, Kamado Joe, The Bastard, Grill Guru, Monolith and Primo: all warranties apply to the first owner only. For us there's also the fact that we can't establish whether a new owner has taken the course and how the appliance has been treated.

Which size should I choose?

For most households the Large is the right choice: enough for six to eight people and the size that fits most of the accessories. Looking for more capacity for large groups, our XL with a 52 cm grate is the biggest we make; go bigger still and that's Big Green Egg (XLarge, 61 cm). Our Small at € 189 is mainly meant as a tabletop model or for a balcony.

Can I see a Grill Bill in person somewhere?

By appointment in Eindhoven. Because we don't sell through dealers, our kamados aren't in showrooms across the country — that's easier with Big Green Egg, with the largest dealer network of any kamado brand. On the other hand, with us you're in direct contact with the people who make the appliance, even after your purchase.
