How do you use FSC firelighters in a kamado?

Place a firelighter in a small hollow in the middle of the charcoal, light it and leave the lid open until the surrounding coals glow. Then close the lid and control the temperature with the vents. For quick searing, use two firelighters in different spots.

    • One firelighter is enough for a normal session
    • No lighter fluid needed, so no chemical aftertaste
    • 1kg bag, wood from FSC-certified forestry

These FSC firelighters get your kamado going without any hassle. Just tuck one or two between the charcoal, light them and let the rest happen. The firelighters burn long enough to really get the surrounding charcoal going, even on a slightly damp evening. You get a 1kg bag, enough for plenty of sessions.

Why FSC firelighters instead of lighter fluid

Lighter fluid gives a quick flame, but also a chemical smell that you taste back in the first piece of meat on the grate. These firelighters are made from wood fibre and wax and burn clean, so your food tastes of smoke, not fuel.

    • 1kg bag, wood from FSC-certified forestry
    • No chemical aftertaste in your first dish
    • Keeps burning until the charcoal takes over
    • Also works in damp weather
    • Works in the kamado, the kettle barbecue and the chimney starter

    How to light your kamado

Fill the fire basket generously with charcoal and make a small hollow in the middle. Place a firelighter in it, light it and leave the lid open until you see a small flame take hold. Then close the lid and control the temperature with the top and bottom vents. For a long session at a low temperature, light one spot; for quick searing, spread two firelighters across the basket.

Pair them with a charcoal that catches well, such as Marabu charcoal, or choose from the full charcoal range. All fuel, smoking wood and firelighters are grouped together in the charcoal, smoking wood and firestarters category.

    Frequently asked questions

How many firelighters do I need each time?
For a normal session, one firelighter is enough. If you want to reach a high temperature quickly, place two in different spots in the fire basket.
Do they also work in damp or cold weather?
Yes. The firelighters burn long enough to get even slightly damp charcoal going. Just keep the bag itself dry, as wet firelighters ignite less easily.
Will they give my food a chemical taste?
No. They're made from wood fibre and wax and burn clean. That's exactly the difference with lighter fluid, which you often taste back in your first dish.
Can I also use them in a chimney starter?
Yes. Place a firelighter under the chimney, set the filled chimney on top and let the coals catch through. They work just as well in a kettle barbecue or fire basket.
