Where does the fire ring 21 inch sit in your kamado?

The ring sits on top of the firebox, under the heat deflector and grate. It forms the wall around your coals and keeps the whole stack at height, so air can flow around the fire from below. This is the original part fitted as standard in the Grill Bill 21 inch Pro and Classic.

    • Sits between the firebox and the heat deflector
    • Provides the airflow around the coals
    • Fits the Grill Bill 21 inch Pro and Classic

The fire ring 21 inch is the ceramic ring section that sits on top of the firebox of your Grill Bill. It forms the wall around your fire zone and at the same time carries the heat deflector and the grate. Without that ring, your entire stack sinks down and you lose the space between coals and food.

What the fire ring 21 inch does

The ring lifts the fire zone so air can flow around the coals from below and draw upward evenly. That's exactly what gives a kamado its stable temperature: air in through the bottom vent, up past the coals, and out through the top controller. If the charcoal basket sits too low or too close to the wall, your fire burns unevenly and your temperature drops away halfway through a long session.

    • Lifts the fire zone for an even airflow
    • Keeps the heat deflector and grate at the right height
    • Original Grill Bill part with an exact fit
    • Fits the Grill Bill 21 inch Pro and Classic
    • Replaced on its own, without touching the rest of your kamado

    When to replace it

Ceramic lasts for years, but can crack from a knock or from cold water hitting a glowing hot ring. If you spot a crack running through or a piece missing from the rim, your deflector no longer sits flat and it's time to replace the ring. You lift the old one out from above and set the new one back in the same spot.

    Maintenance

Knock off ash and baked-on residue dry once the kamado is cold. Rinsing with water isn't needed and isn't wise, since ceramic soaks up moisture. Always lift the ring with two hands, even though it feels light.

    Frequently asked questions

Where exactly does the fire ring sit?
On top of the firebox of your Grill Bill, under the heat deflector and the grate.
Why does my kamado need a fire ring?
It lifts the fire zone so air can flow properly around the coals and your fire burns evenly. It also keeps your deflector and grate at the right height.
Is this an original Grill Bill part?
Yes. It's the same part fitted as standard in the Pro and the Classic, so as a replacement it fits exactly.
Which kamado does this fire ring fit?
The Grill Bill 21 inch Pro and Classic. For the 23 inch you need a different size.
How do I replace the ring?
Let the kamado cool down completely, remove the grate and deflector, and lift the old ring out from above. Set the new one back in the same spot, no tools needed.
