Why the Small Kamado BBQ from Grill Bill Classic?

20 kilograms of ceramic that cooks like a large one, and goes wherever you go.
  • 20 kg

    Portable

Lift it yourself and put it down wherever you want: balcony, campsite, holiday home or the boot of the car. No garden needed to cook on ceramic.
  • Fast

Up to temperature within ten minutes

Less ceramic means faster heating. Ideal for a spontaneous weekday session where you don't want to wait half an hour first.
  • 4-in-1

    Grilling, smoking, baking, slow cooking

Steak on high heat, ribs low & slow, a personal pizza on a stone and fish indirect. The heat deflector that makes it possible is included.
  • Price

The same ceramic, a fairer price

The Classic Jr. cooks just as well as the Pro series. You're not paying for the multilevel system and the luxury finish, only for the cooking performance.
Life with a Classic Jr.

The smallest.
Not the least.

Ceramic cooking without a garden
On the go

Ceramic cooking without a garden

A balcony in the city, a spot at the campsite, the patio of a holiday home: wherever you put it down, you cook with the same stable ceramic heat as on a hundred-kilo kamado. Twenty kilograms you lift yourself.

For two people you cook a full meal on it, and for snacks at drinks you reach a party of ten.

Everything you need, nothing you don't use
Craftsmanship

Everything you need, nothing you don't use

The Classic Jr. is the bare essence of what makes a kamado good: thick ceramic, an airtight felt gasket, a cast iron daisy wheel for fine control and a stainless steel grate.

The heat deflector is included, and that's the part that really matters: it's what switches you from grilling to smoking, baking and indirect cooking.

Cast iron daisy wheel

The fine control for your temperature.

On top sits the cast iron daisy wheel: the top vent. Turning it further open or closed controls how much warm air can escape, and so how hard the fire draws underneath.

At this size the kamado reacts quickly to a small adjustment, turn it gently.

Analogue thermometer

See where you stand at a glance.

The lid houses an analogue thermometer with a clear dial. No batteries, no menus: you take a look and know whether you need to adjust.

The thermometer measures the dome temperature; read it once the kamado has been stable for a while.

Compact size

20 kilograms, you lift it yourself.

At 20 kilograms the Jr. is the only Grill Bill you move without help. On a table, a low wall or in the boot: ceramic cooking doesn't have to stay in one spot.

Take it to the campsite or the holiday home, and cook there exactly as you're used to at home.

Felt gasket

The airtight seal between lid and base.

A felt gasket sits between the lid and the base. It seals the kamado airtight, and that's exactly why you control the temperature with the vents instead of the fire doing its own thing.

Felt is a wear part: with heavy use you replace the gasket roughly once every two years.

Ceramic sphere

Weatherproof, year after year.

The glazed ceramic sphere withstands rain, wind and frost. After use, close the lid and the vents so no water collects in the firebox.

The glaze makes the outside easy to keep clean: a damp cloth is enough.

Bottom vent slider

The coarse control: how much air gets in.

At the bottom is the slider that lets fresh air reach the coals. Wide open means high heat for searing; a couple of centimetres open keeps you at smoking temperature.

You also remove the ash through the same opening once the kamado is cold.

Ceramic firebox

The heart of the kamado: thick ceramic that holds heat.

The inside is built from thick ceramic that stores heat and reflects it evenly back. Even at this size the temperature stays stable for hours, and you fire up economically with charcoal.

Less mass also means the Jr. reaches temperature faster than its bigger siblings.

Stainless steel grate Ø 27.5 cm

Enough for two plates.

The 27.5 cm stainless steel grate is your cooking surface. Room for a complete meal for two, or snacks for a party of ten.

Want grill marks and more mass? Swap it for a 13 inch cast iron grate from the accessories.

Heat deflector

The switch between grilling and slow cooking.

Place the ceramic heat deflector under the grate and the direct flame is shielded. From that moment the kamado becomes an oven: even cooking, smoking and baking without a scorched underside.

This part turns a barbecue into a smoker, and it's included as standard with the Classic Jr.

Fire bowl and charcoal grate

Where the fire sits, and where the air needs to go.

The coals sit in the fire bowl on the charcoal grate. Space stays free underneath so air from the bottom vent slider can flow around the coals and the fire burns clean.

Ash falls through the grate to the bottom, out of the way of your burning coals.

Ash space

Cleaned up in a minute.

Ash collects under the charcoal grate. Once the kamado is cold, remove it through the bottom vent with an ash spoon.

At this size it's done in one go, there's simply less charcoal to begin with.

Airflow

Two sliders, one temperature.

You control a kamado with air, not knobs. In at the bottom, out at the top: the more you open, the harder the fire draws. The bottom slider is coarse, the daisy wheel fine.

Heating up goes quickly on the Jr., keep an eye on the vents so you don't overshoot your target temperature.

Parts

What the Classic Jr.
is built from.

The core of the kamado: a thick ceramic sphere that stores heat and reflects it back to the centre. You cook with surrounding heat instead of a flame under your meat. Less mass than the larger sizes means the Jr. reaches temperature faster, within about ten minutes you're at your setting.

The top vent, in cast iron. It doses how much warm air the kamado lets out, giving you fine control of the temperature. At this size the kamado reacts quickly to a small adjustment, so turn it gently.

The 27.5 cm stainless steel grate is your cooking surface for direct grilling. Room for a complete meal for two, or snacks for ten. Want grill marks and more mass, swap it for a 13 inch cast iron grate from the accessories.

The part that turns a kamado from a barbecue into a smoker. Place the ceramic deflector under the grate and the direct flame is shielded: from that moment you cook indirect, smoke at low temperature or bake with a pizza stone on top. It's included as standard.

A felt gasket sits between lid and base, sealing the kamado airtight. That seal is exactly what makes it possible to control the temperature with the vents. Felt is a wear part: with heavy use you replace the gasket roughly once every two years.

The lid houses an analogue thermometer with a clear dial. No batteries, no menus: you take a look and know whether you need to adjust. The thermometer measures the dome temperature, so read it once the kamado has been stable for a while.

Frequently asked questions about the Small Kamado BBQ

How many people does the Small Kamado BBQ 13 inch suit?
The 27.5 cm grate is large enough for a complete meal for two. Serving snacks at drinks, you reach a party of about ten.
Isn't 13 inch too small?
That depends on how you cook. For two people or for snacks this size is exactly enough. If you regularly cook for the family, look at the Medium 16 inch; if you often have guests, the Large 21 inch is the logical step. Many people buy the Jr. alongside a larger kamado, as a second unit for on the go.
Can I take this kamado with me?
Yes. At 20 kilograms you lift it yourself and put it down wherever you want: balcony, campsite, holiday home or boot. Always let it cool down completely before moving it.
What's included?
The kamado is delivered with a 27.5 cm stainless steel grate, a ceramic heat deflector, the cast iron daisy wheel as top vent, an analogue thermometer in the lid and a fitted felt gasket. All you need is charcoal.
Can I also smoke low & slow on it?
Yes. Put the heat deflector in, keep the vents nearly closed and even this small kamado holds smoking temperature for hours. A small rack of ribs, pork belly or a side of salmon work well on it.
How do I control the temperature?
With air, not knobs. The bottom slider is your coarse control, the cast iron daisy wheel on top is the fine control. Heating up goes quickly at this size, so keep an eye on the vents: overshooting your target temperature is the only thing to avoid.
Can the kamado stay outside in winter?
Yes. The glazed ceramic withstands rain and frost. Close the lid and the vents after use, so no water collects in the firebox. A protective cover keeps the metal looking good for longer.
Do I need to replace the felt gasket?
The felt gasket between lid and base is a wear part. With heavy use you replace it roughly once every two years. A new gasket is available separately from the kamado parts.
