What do you use a fibre glass gasket for on your kamado?

The gasket sits between the lid and the base of your kamado and makes the two halves close airtight. If the original felt is worn or flattened, air leaks out along the rim and you lose control of your temperature. Fibre glass replaces that felt, seals tighter, and lasts longer.

    • Replaces the felt on both the top and bottom rim of your kamado
    • Adhesive strips and heat-resistant sealant included
    • Trim it to size yourself, no tools needed

The fibre glass gasket replaces the felt between the lid and the base of your kamado. Fibre glass seals tighter and lasts longer than felt, so your lid closes airtight again and your kamado holds a stable temperature. You trim the gasket to size yourself for both the top and bottom rim.

Why a fibre glass gasket beats felt

Worn or compressed felt lets air escape along the rim of your lid. Your kamado then struggles to come back down in temperature and creeps upward unnoticed during a long session. With a new gasket you restore that seal, so the bottom vent and top controller are actually steering how much air gets in again.

    • Seals tighter than the original felt
    • Lasts significantly longer than felt
    • Includes adhesive strips and heat-resistant sealant for fitting
    • Restores a stable cooking temperature, even during long sessions
    • Fit it yourself, no tools needed
    • Trims to size for both the top and bottom rim

    How to fit the gasket

Remove the old gasket and clean the ceramic so it's free of grease. Lay the new gasket on the bottom rim, trim it to size and tape the ends with the heat-resistant tape. Apply a bead of sealant about 3 mm wide along the top edge, close the lid and let it dry for ten minutes. Then repeat for the bottom rim.

    Maintenance

Let the sealant cure fully after fitting before you fire up high for the first time. Never slam the lid shut, let it settle gently, and wipe the rim clean now and then with a dry cloth. Grease and ash harden the material faster, which costs you another gasket down the line.

    Frequently asked questions

    What's in the box?
The gasket itself, adhesive strips and a tube of heat-resistant sealant. You don't need anything else to fit it.
Why fibre glass instead of felt?
Fibre glass seals tighter than the original felt and lasts significantly longer. That keeps your kamado holding temperature better.
Do I need tools to fit it?
No. You trim the gasket to size with scissors and stick it on with the included tape and sealant.
How long does the sealant need to dry?
Count on about ten minutes per side with the lid closed, so roughly twenty minutes for the top and bottom rim together. Only fire up high afterwards.
How do I know if my gasket needs replacing?
If the felt is flat, hard or frayed, or if your kamado struggles to hold a low temperature. You'll often also see smoke escaping along the lid rim.
