With this kamado charcoal basket your Grill Bill gets up to temperature faster and your fire burns more steadily. The open stainless steel structure lets air flow around and between the coals, while ash and grit fall through underneath. You're left with only the usable coals, and you lift the basket out in one go afterwards without having to put your hands in the ash.
What a kamado charcoal basket solves
Without a basket your coals sit loose on the fire ring and ash quickly clogs the air vents at the bottom. Your fire then gets less oxygen, the temperature drops away and you start adjusting the vents while the actual problem sits at the bottom. The basket keeps the coals compact together and above the ash, so air keeps flowing through during a long session.
- Stainless steel, built to withstand the heat of a full fire basket
- Diameter 36.5 cm on top and 23 cm at the bottom, height 24.1 cm
- Weight 2.3 kg, matched to the fire ring of the 21 and 23 inch
- Ash and grit fall through, coals stay in place
- Faster to light and a more stable temperature during long cooks
- Half-burnt coals are easy to find again for your next session
Fits the Grill Bill 21 and 23 inch
The basket is made for the fire ring of the Grill Bill 21 inch and 23 inch. It doesn't fit other sizes, so check your kamado before ordering.
Basket or loose coals
Cooking with loose coals also works, but your coals then sit spread across the bottom and ash builds up between the burning coals. With the basket everything stays together and you use less charcoal for the same temperature. Fill it with charcoal of your choice, and light it with the electric firestarter without firelighters.
Emptying and cleaning
Lift the basket out of the cold kamado, tip out the residue and wipe it dry. Combine it with the ash drawer and your kamado is empty and ready to go again within a few minutes.
