Why an ash drawer kamado makes the difference
Without a drawer you scoop or vacuum the ash out through the bottom air vent. That takes time, and some ash almost always ends up on the floor. How to use it
First let your kamado and the ash cool down properly. Ash holds heat longer than you'd think, and what looks like cold grey powder can still be glowing underneath. Then take the handle, pull the drawer out, tip it out into a metal bin and slide it back in.
Ash drawer or ash rake
They don't do the same job. The drawer collects the ash so you can dispose of it in one go. With the ash rake you scrape the last, caked-on ash loose from the bottom and move glowing coals. Many people use them together.
