The Dutch Oven 1 litre from Valhal Outdoor is the smallest size in the range, and that's exactly what makes it so useful. You place it next to your main dish on the kamado for a sauce, a pot of beans or melted garlic butter, without it taking up half your grate.
It's also more than just a pot: the lid and the pan can be used separately as two cast-iron skillets. That way you fry an egg or some mushrooms in one while the other simmers on the fire.
- 1 litre capacity, weighs about 4 kilos
- Solid cast iron, can go straight on the coals
- Lid and pan usable separately as a skillet
- Suitable for kamado, barbecue, fire basket and oven
- Holds the heat for a long time after serving
How to use the Dutch Oven 1 litre
Set it on the grate for gentle simmering, or straight among the coals for more heat. Cast iron takes a little time to come up to temperature, but holds that heat for a long time afterwards. That also makes it pleasant to serve straight from: whatever you make in it stays warm while the rest of the meal comes to the table. Always use an oven glove or cloth, since the handle gets hot too.
Caring for cast iron
Clean the pan while it's still warm, with hot water and a brush. Skip the soap and the dishwasher, since they strip the built-up seasoning. Dry it thoroughly afterwards and rub it with a thin layer of neutral oil. That keeps the coating intact and gives rust no chance. Store the pan dry, with the lid resting loosely on top so air can get in.
