This 44 cm cast iron griddle from Valhal Outdoor is kept deliberately simple. With the flat side up you have a generous griddle where you can fit onions, bacon, prawns, pancakes or a whole load of vegetables at once. Flip it over and you have a fire bowl to build a wood or charcoal fire in, handy for when the company stays outside after dinner.
Cast iron works in your favour here. The plate takes a little while to come up to temperature, but holds that heat afterwards. Put a cold piece of meat on it and the temperature barely drops, so you still get a good sear instead of stewed meat.
- Material: cast iron
- Diameter: 44 cm

How to use the 44 cm cast iron griddle
Let the plate warm up gently over moderate heat and grease it lightly before you start. Don't work with a full layer of ingredients at once, as the surface cools down and the food starts to stew. As a fire bowl, set it on a heat-resistant, flat surface, never directly on a wooden deck or patio tiles that can crack.
Maintenance
Clean it while the plate is still warm: hot water, a brush and dry it straight away. Then a thin layer of oil over it. Store it dry and covered, since cast iron left outside in the rain visibly rusts within a few days.
