What does a magnetic knife block walnut give you?

You store your knives on the outside, held by magnets in the wood. The edge never touches a slot so it does not rub, and no moisture or crumbs stay behind where you cannot reach them. The natural stone base keeps the block stable, even with a heavy chef's knife hanging on it.

  • For steel kitchen and barbecue knives, not for ceramic
  • Walnut wood with a natural stone base, around 1 kg
  • Wipe with a damp cloth, not dishwasher safe

This magnetic knife block walnut keeps your knives on the outside instead of in slots. You place the knife against the wood and the magnets pick it up, with the edge clear of any other surface. That means the steel never rubs against anything, and you can see at a glance which knife to grab.

Why a magnetic knife block walnut beats slots

In a classic block with slots, the edge rubs against the wood every time you take a knife out and put it back, and moisture and crumbs always stay behind in the slot where you cannot reach them. With a magnetic block everything is open: you wipe it clean with a cloth and the edge only ever touches air.

  • Edge never touches wood or plastic, so less wear
  • No slots for moisture, crumbs or grease to collect in
  • Takes knives of different lengths and widths
  • Natural stone base, heavy enough not to tip over
  • Knives visible, so you grab the right one straight away

How to hang your knives

Hang the heavy knives low and the lighter ones higher, so the centre of gravity stays low. Place a knife against the wood spine first and let the magnet take over, rather than tapping the blade against it. Make sure the knives are dry before you hang them back up.

Caring for wood and stone

Wipe the wood with a slightly damp cloth and dry it afterwards. Do not put the block in the sink or in the dishwasher. A thin layer of neutral oil now and then keeps the walnut wood's colour deep. Just wipe the natural stone base clean.

No matching set yet: take a look at knives for chef's, santoku and carving knives. Looking for something flatter for the worktop, the magnetic knife stand in oak is an alternative. To keep the edge sharp, the Horl knife sharpeners are ready and waiting.

Frequently asked questions

How many knives fit on it?
That depends on the width of your knives. Since there are no fixed slots, you decide the layout yourself and can hang narrow knives close together.
Do the magnets hold a heavy chef's knife?
Yes, provided you place the spine against the wood and lower it until the magnet grips it. Hang heavy knives at the bottom to keep the block well balanced.
Does it also work with ceramic knives?
No. Magnets only grip steel, so ceramic knives will not stay put. Store those separately in a sleeve or a drawer with compartments.
Can the block go in the dishwasher?
No, wood and natural stone do not belong in the dishwasher. Wipe the block with a slightly damp cloth and dry it straight away.
