The orange smoking pastilles from Best Charcoal are pressed blocks of citrus wood that give a strikingly fresh layer of smoke. Where a lot of smoking wood leans heavy and hearty, this flavour stays light and fruity, with a sweet finish. That makes it a pleasant choice for dishes you don't want to overload: chicken, turkey, fish and shellfish. Place them dry on the glowing coals and close the lid. The bag contains 1 kilo.
What makes orange smoking pastilles different
Citrus wood gives an aroma closer to a marinade than to classic barbecue smoke. That's why it pairs well with salty rubs and with dishes where you've already worked citrus in.
- Fresh, fruity smoke without a sharp or bitter edge
- Excellent with chicken, turkey, duck, fish and shellfish
- Pressed wood that smoulders longer than a loose chip
- Works on kamados, kettle barbecues and smokers
- 1 kilo bag, good for a large number of sessions
How to use them
Let your coals glow well first, until the smoke runs clear. Then place one or two pieces straight on the coals, close the lid and let your dish sit in the smoke. For a longer session, you can add another pastille later if needed. Don't soak: wet wood steams and gives a dull aroma.
Combining with other smoking flavours
Want more body under the fresh note? Add a piece of oak. Prefer to stay fully in the fruity range? Apple wood is a logical partner.
