The dutch oven 6.1 litre from Valhal Outdoor is the most versatile size in the range. Flat base, solid cast iron and a heavy lid: that means the pot sits stable on the grate of your kamado, on a fire bowl and simply indoors on the stove. One pot, then, for the whole year, not just for barbecue season.
A generous six litres is the right size for most households. Enough for four to six people's worth of stew or soup, and still manageable to lift when full. Cast iron absorbs heat slowly and releases it evenly, so nothing burns at the edge while the middle is still cooking.

What you make in a dutch oven 6.1 litre
Stewed meat, hachee, curry, pea soup and sourdough bread are the classics. On a kamado with a heat deflector everything cooks indirectly and the temperature stays stable for hours, so you barely need to intervene. The heavy lid keeps moisture in, so you need little extra liquid.
Without feet or with feet
Want to set the pot right among loose glowing coals at a campfire instead? Then choose the version with feet: that keeps the base clear so the coals keep burning. For a grate and hob, this flat version is easier to use.
Maintenance
Rinse the pot with hot water and no washing-up liquid, dry it immediately and rub the inside lightly with oil. That gives the cast iron an ever-better natural layer. Also check the other Dutch ovens and the rest of the cast iron for the barbecue.
