What is the HORL Whetstone 6000 used for?

You use it as the final step after sharpening. The coarse disc sets the edge, this ultra-fine stone polishes it smooth so no rough rim is left. The result is a knife that glides more easily through meat, fish and vegetables and stays sharp for longer.

    • Grit #6000, the finest step in the range
    • Fits the HORL sharpener with its fixed sharpening angle
    • Weighs approximately 600 grams

The HORL Whetstone 6000 is the ultra-fine finishing stone within the HORL system. A coarse diamond disc removes material and restores sharpness to the edge. This stone does something different: it polishes that edge smooth, so no rough rim is left. The difference is most noticeable with fine cutting work, when portioning meat, and with tomatoes or fish, where a rough edge tends to snag instead of slicing cleanly through.

What the HORL Whetstone 6000 does for your knife

The finer the grit, the smaller the grooves it leaves in the steel. At grit #6000, those grooves are so small the edge becomes almost smooth. That doesn't just make the knife sharper in use, it also holds that sharpness longer because there are fewer microscopic hooks that can bend over or break off.

    • Final step in the sharpening sequence: coarse, fine, ultra-fine
    • Fits the HORL sharpener, so you keep the same fixed sharpening angle
    • Ideal for chef's knives, Santokus and fine boning work
    • Also suited for touching up a knife that's still reasonably sharp
    • Delivers a clean, smooth edge with no burr

    How to work it in

Always work from coarse to fine. Set the edge first with the diamond disc, then move to a finer grit and finish with this stone. A few calm rolling motions per side is enough: pushing further to remove material serves no purpose at this grit.

    Maintenance

Keep the stone clean and dry after use. Metal dust left on the surface slows it down, so wipe it with a damp cloth and let it air dry before storing.

Somewhere in between? The fine #3000 stone is the logical middle step. Find the complete range of stones, sharpeners and stations at HORL knife sharpeners.

    Frequently asked questions

Can this stone make a blunt knife sharp again?
No, the grit is too fine for that. Set a blunt knife first with a coarse diamond disc and work your way up in steps to finer grits. This stone is the finishing touch.
What is the difference with the #3000?
The #3000 is fine and suited to refining the edge after the coarse work. The #6000 goes a step further and polishes the edge smooth. Many users run them back to back.
Does this stone fit every HORL sharpener?
It's made for the HORL system and swaps in the same way as the other discs. If in doubt, check your sharpener's model before ordering.
Do I need to wet the stone before use?
Follow HORL's instructions that come with the stone. If you work dry, wipe away the metal dust in between so the surface keeps doing its job.
