You clip the rotisserie basket from PiRo Original onto your kamado's spit. Loose pieces such as potatoes, carrots, drumsticks or meatballs no longer sit still on the grate, but turn along with the spit. Anything too small or too loose to skewer onto a spit rod stays neatly in place this way and cooks equally hard on every side.
Why this rotisserie basket
On a spit you normally turn a chicken or a roast: one large piece you fix between the forks. Small pieces simply fall off. The basket catches that. You fill it, clip it shut and slide it onto the rod. Because the contents keep rolling, each piece takes its turn passing the hot side, and the fat that's released bastes the rest automatically.
- Clips onto a standard spit for a kamado or barbecue
- Stainless steel, so no rust forming after a wet night outdoors
- Even cooking without needing to turn anything
- Fat and juices drip over the contents: no need to baste
- Suited to vegetables, potatoes, chicken parts, meatballs and chestnuts
How to use it
Fill the basket loosely, so the pieces have room to roll while turning. Set it right above the coals and keep the temperature around 180 to 200 degrees, and you'll get colour without the outside burning before the core is done. Cut vegetables into equal pieces so they finish at the same time too.
Cleaning and storage
Let the basket cool, scrub it out with a brush and warm water and dry it thoroughly. Caked-on sugars from a marinade loosen in soapy water. Stainless steel discolours a little over time, that's normal and doesn't affect anything.
