This half-moon grate 21 inch is made of extra thick cast iron and measures 46x23 cm. It's for anyone who wants crisp grill marks without replacing the whole grate: on one half you place this cast iron, on the other half you simply keep your existing stainless steel grate. You place it directly in your Grill Bill 21 inch.
Why a half-moon grate 21 inch in cast iron
Cast iron gets hotter than stainless steel and holds onto that heat for longer. On the cast iron half you really sear meat and fish instead of them stewing. On the stainless steel half you meanwhile let chicken or vegetables cook through more gently. Two temperatures on one kamado, without swapping grates halfway through.
- Extra thick cast iron for crisp, deep grill marks
- Holds onto heat longer than a stainless steel grate
- Size 46x23 cm, for the Grill Bill 21 inch
- Combine with your existing grate on the other half
- No need to get rid of your standard grate
How to place it in your kamado
You place this grate directly in your Grill Bill, where your regular grate normally sits. Let it heat up together with the kamado, since cast iron needs more time than stainless steel to get properly hot through. Only turn your meat once it releases from the grate on its own.
Maintenance
Brush the grate clean while it's still lukewarm and rub it lightly with neutral oil afterwards. Store it dry, that keeps rust from getting a chance.
