What is this cast iron grate and does it fit my kamado?

It's a full cast iron grill grate with a diameter of 51 cm, made for the Grill Bill 23 inch. It replaces your stainless steel grate when you want more searing power. It comes as standard with the Grill Bill Pro Sr 23 inch.

  • Diameter 51 cm, fits every 23 inch Grill Bill
  • Standard on the Pro Sr, available separately as a replacement
  • Lightly grease after cleaning to prevent rust

If you want the deepest grill marks on your Grill Bill, a cast iron grill 23 inch is the grate you're looking for. It has a diameter of 51 cm and comes as standard with the Grill Bill Pro Sr 23 inch. As a standalone grate it fits every 23 inch Grill Bill, whether you buy it as a replacement or as an addition.

What a cast iron grill 23 inch is for

This grate takes the place of the standard stainless steel grate when you want more searing power. Cast iron stays hot for longer than stainless steel, so your temperature stays stable the moment you load a cold piece of meat. The result is tighter grill marks and a thicker, crispier crust on steaks, burgers and vegetables.

  • Full grate of 51 cm, not a half moon
  • Fits every 23 inch Grill Bill, also as a replacement
  • Standard equipment on the Grill Bill Pro Sr 23 inch
  • Stays hot with a full grate carrying several pieces of meat
  • Solid cast iron, lasts for years with proper care

Cast iron versus stainless steel: the difference on your plate

Stainless steel is light and reacts quickly to temperature changes, but transfers less heat to your food. Cast iron is heavier and heats up more slowly, but once hot it transfers far more heat to the contact surface. That gives you a deeper, darker crust than on stainless steel, with less chance of a grey band around your meat.

Maintenance

Preferably clean the grate while it's still a little warm, that's the easiest way. Rub the cast iron lightly with oil afterwards to keep rust at bay.

Also check out the other kamado accessories for your Grill Bill, such as a heat deflector for indirect cooking or an ash drawer to clean up quickly after cooking.

Does this grate come standard with a Grill Bill?
Yes, with the Grill Bill Pro Sr 23 inch. For any other 23 inch Grill Bill you buy it separately.
Why choose cast iron over stainless steel?
