This cast iron grill grate 47 cm is a full grate, not a half moon. You replace the standard grate of your Grill Bill 21 inch with it and then grill across the complete surface on cast iron. Handy if you're feeding a crowd and want to sear everything in one go instead of working in two shifts.
What a cast iron grill grate 47 cm gives you
Stainless steel loses its heat quickly. Cast iron doesn't: it stores the heat in its mass and releases it where the meat touches the grate. That means you can place several steaks, burgers or vegetables on at once without the temperature dropping away. You get the same deep marks across the whole grate, even on the piece that goes on last.
- Full diameter of 47 cm, fits the Grill Bill 21 inch
- Stays hot with a full grate carrying several pieces of meat
- Crisp, deep grill marks across the entire surface
- Not a half moon, so you don't need a second accessory
- Cast iron lasts for years with proper care
How to get the most out of it
Place the grate in the kamado while you're firing it up. Cast iron needs more time to get properly hot through than stainless steel, so allow some extra warm-up time. Only turn your meat once it releases from the grate on its own, that keeps the marks crisp and stops the crust from tearing.
Maintenance
Brush the grate clean while it's still lukewarm and grease it lightly with neutral oil afterwards. Don't leave it wet, or rust gets a chance.
